More simple steps to help you in designing your track lighting system.
Step 3: Choose Your Lamps
When choosing your lamps, you will need to make sure that you purchase fixtures,
which will fit your track. There are two main types of track fixtures, low
voltage, and line voltage. Line voltage is the same 120 volts of raw electricity
that is in standard outlets and junction boxes in the US, and 240 volts in the
U.K. Low voltage fixtures consume less electricity, and provide a whiter light
than Line voltage fixtures. Low voltage, use 12-volt power, and therefore must
convert the 120V to 12V. The transformer serves as both the base of the fixture
as well as the connection to the track, and is an essential part of any low
voltage track fixture. The number of fixtures permitted on a track will be
dictated by the total wattage
of the fixtures you intend to use.
Step 4: Pick Your Bulbs
Bulbs differ in several ways, in diameter, shape, and the brightness of the
light they produce. Some spotlights are used to create a focused brightness to
highlight specific items such as a picture, piece of art, or workspace. Several
low voltage fixtures require the use of only MR 16 and MR 11 bulbs. By using a
combination of floods and spots, you can accent specific objects while providing
light to general areas from the same track. |
